In time for the holiday season, Sony recently released their slimmer Playstation 3 slim, known as the Super-Slim Playstation 3. Unlike the previous models, this one ditches the slot fed disc drive for a top-loader that slides open. Other than the size difference and top loading disc drive, nothing much has changed. It is about 20% smaller than the previous Playstation 3 slim, which measured at 11.42 x 2.56 x 11.42 inches. The new one will be 11.4 x 2.36 x 9.05 inches. There’s the same amount of inputs and outputs, and it comes with the same accessories that previous models came with.

There will be two HDD size packages, which are 250 GB and 500 GB. The 250 GB PS3 will be bundled with Uncharted 3, and the 500 GB PS3 will be bundled with Assassin’s Creed III.

It’s a bit odd that Sony came out with another Playstation 3 design. I would have thought the previous slim was going to be the only redesign, especially since the previous consoles were redone just once. My guess is they want to make their console even more affordable. With these two bundles, it’s a great deal for anyone interested in buying a Playstation 3. Now, would a current PS3 owner buy this? I don’t think so, there’s really no point. The hardware isn’t upgraded, as it shouldn’t be anyways. I do feel the slot loader is better than the slide open top loader, but if that’s what was needed to bring down the price, then more power to Sony. If you’ve been interested in this console for some time, now’s a great chance, especially if you’re interested in the games that they’re bundled with!

Here’s an unboxing in case you’re into these things. I know I am! Oh, and they have British accents!

For funsies, here’s a terrible Playstation 3 bootleg unboxing!
